Forill

A Nedrenite Myth

One day Dorrec Bachawk, our great gallinaceous leader, was hungry for ice cream.

He's usually hungry for ice cream, but on this night he was particularly hungry. So he ordered a nearby Redrenite, "Funereal! Go find me some ice cream!"

"OK!" responded Funereal. She turned to leave, but Dorrec said, "No, wait! I don't just want some ice cream! I want all the ice cream!!!"

"All of it?" asked Funereal.

"Yes! Get all of the Redrenites to help you!"

Again, Funereal said, "OK!" Then she teleported away.

Soon, hundreds of Redrenites were appearing in Dorrec Bachawk's throne room, bringing ice cream with them.

"Hahahahahaha! Ba-CHAWK!" laughed Dorrec as he ate the ice cream. "Why haven't I done this before?"

The throne room could not hold all of the ice cream on Forill, and eventually it started to fill the rest of the palace. Dorrec continued eating.

Not all the ice cream was easy to steal, though. As the frigid dessert began to spill out of the palace, a Redrenite named Lugubrious materialized in front of Dorrec Bachawk.

"Dorrec," he said, "we have a problem! We found a huge ice cream shop, but the shapeshifter who runs it is a mage, and she's made a magical shield around the ice cream that blocks our teleporting!"

"That's not a problem!" said Dorrec. "We'll just bring Aephos. This shapeshifter's shield will be no match for my dragon!" He teleported to the roof of his palace, where the huge black dragon rested. "Aephos! I need you to help me steal some ice cream! I'm going to teleport to it in a few minutes, and then you can follow me." He teleported back inside, and then onto Lugubrious's shoulder. "Take me to the ice cream shop!"

Lugubrious and Dorrec appeared next to a large building, with a sign on it that declared it to be "Kyd's Ice Cream." A crowd of Redrenites surrounded the shop and were tearing it apart.

Dorrec hopped onto the ground, and looked up at the shining disk that was Nedren. Aephos would be coming soon...

He looked back at the shop, which had been dismantled enough to reveal a human-looking woman behind a translucent blue wall that crackled with mana. The woman sat against a pile of icy crates, calmly licking an ice cream cone. A Redrenite stood next to the shield, encased in ice, with one finger touching the barrier.

"Hello, Dorrec," said the shapeshifter. "I'm Kireen Kyd. Would you like to buy some ice cream? It's only one smaragdun for a scoop!"

"Or I can just have Aephos destroy your shield!"

"That dragon? He's not nearly big enough to break this."

"Well, we won't have to wait long to find out. You can see him coming now..." Dorrec gestured with his beak at the winged silhouette that covered part of Nedren. Kireen just kept eating her ice cream.

In a rush of air, the Nedrenite dragon landed next to Dorrec, who said, "Aephos! Destroy that magical wall; it's blocking the ice cream!"

Aephos stepped into the ruins, demolishing what was left of the house, and lifted up his foot, then brought it down on the shield. Immediately, his paw froze to the surface, and ice began creeping up his leg. The dragon let out a roar, and tore his leg away. He moved back, and spit a stream of glowing purple acid at the barricade. The acid just froze.

"Oh, very nice!" exclaimed Kireen. "It's like a glow-in-the-dark popsicle!"

"That popsicle make be little too sour," remarked Dorrec. "But go ahead and taste it, by all means. Anyway, it seems that you were correct about the strength of your shield. If I can't take it from you, though, I'll take it with you! Aephos, carry her back to Nedren!"

Aephos scooped up the earth from under Kireen and, carrying her with it, headed back toward Forill's moon. Dorrec teleported onto his head.

As they neared Nedren, a long, green rope came into view, reaching up to the edge of the huge floating island.

"Is that...a beanstalk?!" asked Dorrec.

Then they flew over the edge of Nedren, which by this time had ice cream spilling onto it out of the palace, and Kireen said, "Why, Dorrec! You already have so much ice cream! Surely you're not going to eat all of this yourself? You have to learn to share!"

As she said this, Dorrec's palace exploded, sending ice cream flying all over Nedren, and across Forill below. In the palace's place there now stood a pumpkin of titanic proportions, with a humanoid figure made of dirt standing on it.

"See?" taunted Kireen. "Cultivus knows how to share!"

Dorrec squawked with rage, and Aephos let Kireen's magical bubble drop. Unfortunately, the beanstalk reached out a tendril and grabbed it, saving her from plummeting to her death. Then Cultivus jumped onto the vine, and it began to recede, taking the elemental and the shapeshifter safely with it.

Back on Nedren, more plants exploded out of the ground, sending ice cream flying all over Forill. Some of that ice cream remains to this day, covering the white peaks of mountains.
